This pasta place was one of my favorites! There are tons of places to try in Trastevere and this is worth a stop.

The pasta with mussels and pecorino was delicious! The noodles were al dente and mussels went very well with the cheese.

I also got a cappuccino which was excellent! Tutto bene!

We really wanted to like this place, but I will not be recommending this place to anyone. With that said, I had a friend who came here on her trip to Rome and she raves about it, so maybe they just had a bad night.

    Here are the highlights:
-There was a wait to get seated, but it wasn't too bad.
-Service was fine but a little on slower side (getting our bill), but that was expected because the restaurant was so busy.
    -Food came out quickly-yay!
-Food quality- so overly salty that it was inedible.

We had the calamari which was fine. It was good quality squid, but nothing to call home about. We also had the three main things mentioned on Yelp, carbonara, cacio e pepe pasta, and cacio e pepe meatballs. The food could have been okay, but it was extremely salty; even for someone who likes salty food! Maybe it was a bad batch, but my husband's carbonara was inedible. That's saying a lot considering he will eat almost anything.

We will be sticking to less touristy places with less reviews from now on.

The restaurant was recommended by my host when I did a 24 hour layover in Rome. It's located in a cute small street Int the Trestavare are, in a plaza next to a church. They have seating area outdoor and indoor. If you seat outside it's a great spot for people watching. The day I went ended up being a wonderful sunny day, and perfect timing before the rush of people.

I ordered the carbonara and a glass of wine, the carbonara was served in  personal size pan. Delicious and the best one I've had. This was my first time dining alone and in a foreign country, the servers were nice and checked on my table. I didn't feel rushed at all even though there was a line waiting for tables. Happy with the recommendation.

Trastevere - one of the most popular neighborhoods in Rome is now full of tourists. I am also one of them because Tonnarello is one the top reviewed places in all of the city. The restaurant itself usually has a line forming after 6pm. There are tons of people walking around exploring the cute alley way restaurants. Luckily, the wait wasn't too long and I got seated within 15 minutes.

Their claim to fame is the pasta. Yes, Roman pasta is al dente - but not because of the chew due to "rawness or undercooking" (apologize for my description), but simply the pasta itself is very dense and the smaller portion is quite filling. I will say the portion of Tonnarello is good size and value served in a metal pan.

Most of the options were simply a red or green sauce with cheese, but I wanted something more substantial and opted with the meatball options. Great food, wonderful service, but to me, there were several places that offered really good pasta without the big, loud crowds. Definitely very tasty, but not sure about the hype. Nothing to knock on the place, but I prefer a place that isn't so touristy/rambunctious and I had similar fresh "al dente" pasta experiences in Rome.

    Happy travels and explorations!

YES it's worth the hype!!!! Stayed in the trestavare district while on my honeymoon in Italy and this was probably the best pasta I had. Super authentic and the wait staff is so friendly. The hubs and I ended up here multiple mornings before venturing off to see the sites drinking cappuccinos at the bar.

I can't say enough good things about the staff because they were always helpful and kind to us. When I asked them what they were famous for to warrant such a long line they said they had good pasta! Haha!

The food really is very tasty and authentic which is nice. I got the spaghetti and meatballs (even though it comes with ONE meatball) and the hubs got the americano pasta. The spaghetti I got was great (even though I wish it had more than one meatball) but I really did like the americano one better because I felt like it had more yumminess in it.
